Helping... on Your Road to Wellness

Improving your health, wherever you are, on your road to wellness!

The Principles of Naturopathic Medicine

  • The Healing Power of Nature (Vis Medicatrix Naturae): We have an inherent self-healing process that is ordered and intelligent. A Naturopathic doctor's goal is to remove the obstacle to that healing and recovery.
  • Identify and Treat the Causes (Tolle Causam): Identify and remove the underlying cause of the illness rather than eliminate or suppress symptoms. Try to figure out WHY and treat that cause.
  • First Do No Harm (Primum Non Nocere): 3 guidelines for reducing harm in treatment.
  • Use treatment what minimize risk of side effects. Start with least force.
  • Avoid suppressing symptoms when possible.
  • Acknowledge, respect and support the individual's self healing process.
  • Doctor as Teacher (Docere): Naturopathic doctors educate their patients and encourage self responsibility. Part of the treatment is the therapeutic potential of education and understanding.
  • Treat the Whole Person: Consider and treat each patient by considering all factors including mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health. This can consider genetic, environmental, social and other factors.
  • Prevention: Naturopathic doctors emphasize prevention by assessing risk factors. We try to treat weakness and support strength to optimize health.
